Domino Park Study

This study of Domino Park was completed for the City of Miami’s Planning Department with the intention of guiding the future vision of one of Miami’s most popular tourist destinations located in Little Havana. Given the historic nature of the site and its deep ties to the Cuban-American experience in Miami, it was essential for us to speak with local leaders and spend time with residents to ascertain their needs and vision for the park.

The result was a study of ideas of how to slowly evolve the park and provide a safe, welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. Regular visitors noted the need for better shading and ventilation, as well as sitting spaces independent of the domino tables. The concept design and models for the park present solutions to these problems, with larger tree canopies, better materials suited to the climate, and regular seating areas.

The visual design paid careful attention to materials and design choices that evoked memories of Havana, Cuba while maintaining its Miami identity, serving the local community that relies on the park community gathering and a fun game of Dominoes.
